Nena was born and raised in the small portside pueblito of San Miguel, Mexico. As the oldest daughter in a family of twelve, there were certain responsibilities that she had to take care of, which left her little time for social pursuits.
As only her mother was working, things at home financially became progressively worse until she had to drop out of high school in order to help take care of her little brothers and sisters, while her mother worked at a clothing factory sewing fabrics. Nena's father, Alberto, was a drunk and spent most of the day with his drunken friends inebriated with little motivation to get a job.
Nena's real name was Mary Helen, but her parents had always called her Nena, ever since she could remember.
At eighteen, although all she had to wear were old peasant dresses and hand-me-downs from her mother, it in no way distracted from her obvious physical endowments. A perfect oval face with full, red lips, dark brown eyes that were so deeply brown they were almost black, with lashes that were so thick that they would never need mascara. Her face was framed by impossibly long, curly, thick black hair that fell to the middle of her back and that she frequently wore in a ponytail. Her skin was flawless, smooth, supple, soft and golden brown from many days toiling out in the hot Mexican sun. Her body was firm and toned by the almost constant work at the rancho where she lived.
A point of contention with her, and which caused a great deal of anguish and embarrassment were her breasts. As she had a petite frame, and thin waist, her breasts, even under the baggy peasant blouses that she wore, were prominent. Large, round and firm. She dreaded the visits into town to buy tortillas and vegetables. Having to endure the endless stares and leering from the male townsfolk.
Miguel, who ran the town's only market, was especially dreadful. He smelled like a donkey and made no effort to disguise his obvious lust. When she went to his store he stared openly at her firm breasts and well toned legs and thighs with eyes as big as saucers. What she saw reflected in them, the animal lust, made her want to turn around and go home. She could hardly stand his staring, but had no choice, as it was the towns only market. Life for Nena was hard, very hard.
She was born with a natural zest for life and adventure, but it was held in check by her responsibilities at home and her cultural upbringing. She had just turned eighteen, and like most girls her age was waiting for the day when she could be married and leave the house to start life on her own. She longed to be free, but knew that her mother counted on her and needed her, as did her little brothers and sisters. Her life was going nowhere and there was nothing she could do about it.
About the only thing that she could do was to go to the Elephant once a month, which was the pueblos local disco. It attracted mostly locals, but during spring break attracted the crazy gringos who tore into town like an out of control tornado, yelling and screaming. They oftentimes visited the Elephant to dance and pound down a few cold Cervesas.
The townspeople despised the gringos, but counted on their tourist dollars to help make ends meet, so they had almost free rein in town.
Towards the end of the month Nena spoke with her best friend Constancia about going to the Elephant that coming Saturday. They made plans to meet at the club in the late afternoon, when it was quieter and before all the gringos came. As Nena's parents were poor, dressing up for a night out was a simple affair as she wore basically the same peasant skirt and blouse, but spruced herself up with a little lipstick and clipped her thick hair back away from her face with a colorful, barrette.
Nena's mom walked with her to the door, "You have fun Mija. It's not healthy for you to work all the time." Nena smiled at her mom and kissed her on the cheek. Then she began the long walk into town to meet up with Constancia.
Nena found the club more crowded then she thought and was only able to find a seat at a booth for six where she waited for Constancia to arrive. She made herself comfortable and ordered a coke from the waiter. Fifteen minutes stretched into half an hour and still Nena didn't see Constancia. She began to worry.
At that instant a group of about seven young American men about her age approached her table. The tall, athletic one in front of the group asked her in broken Spanish, "Do you mind if we sit here?"
Nena appeared momentarily at a loss for words, but not wanting to appear unfriendly invited them to sit down. But rather than all of them sliding into the booth at one end of the booth, two of the men made her scoot over so that she was in the middle. Nena felt claustrophobic as if she was stuck in a box.
The tall man introduced himself as Mark and quickly introduced the rest of his friends. Mark called the waiter over and ordered a round of beers for everyone. Nena tentatively shook everyone's hand. Then feeling nervous and a little vulnerable, she tried to get up and leave, stating that she needed to go to find her friend.
Doug, the man on the other side of Nena who appeared a slightly drunken stated, with a slightly slurred voice in broken Spanish, "Just stick around for a beer. We just got done ordering a round for all of us."
"Come on, a beer or two won't kill you," slurred the man named Scott, another of the slightly inebriated gringos.
The waiter shortly arrived with a round of ice cold Coronas. Mark passed one over to Nena who shyly grasped the bottle, and took a small sip.

"Atta-girl. A little beer won't hurt you," Nena heard Mark say.
Over the course of time, Nena became aware that Mark and Doug had subtly pressed in closer to her, their legs firmly paralleling hers. She sucked her breath in nervously. Then Doug leaned in close to her and whispered, "Come on Nena haven't you ever drunk beer before?" He was close enough for her to smell his breath and catch his eyes as they quickly scanned her breasts, which jutted out firmly from the front of her blouse.
She drew back from him as he continued leering at her. From the other side of her, Mark caught Doug's eye and said good-naturedly, "Come on Doug, Cool it. Come on let's keep things cool okay?" as he nudged his friend under the table with his foot.
Nena glanced up, eyes furtively scanning the room for Constancia, but still didn't see her. She took a deep breath, where could she be, she wondered.
"I have an idea," Mark said, interrupting Nena's train of thought as he took another long pull of his beer, " Why don't we play a little language game before the band comes on?"
The others around the table nodded their agreement. Nena said in her broken English, "I don't do well in word games. I don't speak English really well."
Mark leaned in and said to her with a lopsided smile, "There are only two words you need to know in this game, truth or dare. Watch, you'll learn fast."
The waiter brought over another round of beers. Nena was not much of a drinker and declined the second beer. Mark gently, but firmly grasped her upper arm with his hand, "Nena, we're your new friends. You don't want to hurt our feelings do you?"
The rest of the men watched intently, waiting for Nena's reaction. She slightly flinched at Mark's touch. "I'm sorry...I just don't drink that much." She felt Mark's hand tighten subtlety on her arm. He continued to smile at her, but she saw his eyes harden slightly.
She felt light headed from the beers and out of her element. She knew that she should just get up and leave, but... Your being ridiculous she thought to herself, what could these gringos do to you in a bar with all these people around. Nena slowly exhaled and said slowly with conviction, "O.K. but this is going to be my last one. I have to find my friend."
Doug grinned and pushed a beer towards her. "Well, is everyone ready to start the game?"
Mark said, "O.K. Nena. You first. Truth or Dare."
Nena looked up at Mark nervously. She was aware his hands that were damp and clammy and on the back of her blouse was sticking slightly to her back. She clenched her fists to relax and put them on her lap. She didn't know what to say.
Mark said with thinly disguised impatience, "Nena, what do you want Truth or Dare?"
Nena took a nervous gulp of her beer. While she was thinking of what to say, she heard one of the men belch loudly. With her eyes staring at the table she said in a slightly lower voice, "I'll take Truth."
Mark turned slowly and said in a voice barely above a whisper, "Do you ever go without wearing a bra?"
Nena turned bright red with embarrassment. She had never had anyone ever ask her something so shameful, so wrong. Mark pressed on. "Well have you?"
Nena clenched and unclenched her hands. She felt Doug and Mark their legs pressed firmly against hers and the rest of the group suddenly got very quiet. She could feel the tension around the table. She continued to stare at the table, unsure what to do. Doug's hand landed lightly on her thigh and made her jump. She quickly pushed it away.
"Well?" he said, "Answer the question!"
Nena could feel her heart hammering in her chest. With a forced voice she said, "When I go to sleep...I don't wear a bra."
As if on cue Nena could hear all the men at the table exhale audibly as if they were holding their breaths. Nena felt so embarrassed. She felt the men stealing furtive glances at her prominent breasts.
Mark looked up at her with bright eyes, smiling broadly, "See Nena, I knew you could pick this game up quickly."
The game continued for a few rounds until it was Nena's turn again. She was almost done with her second beer, when she felt Doug take the glass she held and push a new one into her hand. "Doug, I don't want-" Doug cut her off abruptly. "Relax Nena. Aren't you having fun?"
Nena felt more light-headed then before, and her mouth felt slightly off kilter when she tried to speak. The guy sitting in front of her, a nervous, fidgety man, who she remembered had been introduced as John, was reaching under the table with his leg every few minutes and running his foot along Nena's slim legs. She tried to move away, but was pinned in by Mark and Doug.
She could barely move. She was frightened, but the soothing effects of the beer were helping to ease any feeling of vulnerability she had. It was John's turn to ask the question, "Truth or dare" Nena?"
Nena's mouth felt numb, like the feeling she got from the dentist when he gave her a shot prior to a dental procedure. She shifted in the booth trying to make herself comfortable. In a low, quiet tone she replied, "Dare."
John leaned forward on his elbows, nervously scratched his nose, "I dare you to take off your bra."
Nena was not prepared for the dare and sat bolt upright in the booth. Her hands clenched into little fists and her arms pinned to her sides tightly. She began to feel woozy, as if she just got up too fast after having laid down for a long while. She tried to respond, but couldn't speak. Her mouth felt like it was filled with cotton.
The men looked at her with bright eyes and flushed faces. The result of a lot of beer and the sight of the raven-haired Mexican beauty sitting less then five feet from them, beautiful dark eyes darting around the table like a scared bird, with her chest heaving nervously, her stiff arms held tightly against her sides, causing her large, round breasts to fill out her worn peasant blouse even more. Her nervousness accented her nipples causing them to harden slightly and due to their prominent size poke out through her bra and thin material of her blouse. Doug licked his dry lips as he caught Marks eye. |
